Caswell Center Museum and Visitors Center

Built in the 1800's, the Stroud House became home to the first residents of Caswell Center in 1914. Caswell Center is the first facility to serve people with mental retardation in NC. The museum describes early life at the facility, and a videotape presentation is available describing the history and developments.

Caswell No. 1 Fire Station Museum


Enter the world of the late 1800's firefighter. The Fire Station was built in 1895 after a disastrous fire destroyed much of the downtown Kinston area. A 1922 American LaFrance Pumper is the focus of the museum, along with a collection of helmets, nozzles, ladders, fire extinguishers and other memorabilia which span a 100-year period.

Community Council for the Arts

A three story 30,000 square foot historical building with six beautiful gallery spaces. Exhibits change every six to eight weeks. The Arts Center is also home to a large permanent model train exhibit. Numerous classes and workshops are available for adults and children at a nominal charge. There are many unique handcrafted items in the Arts Center Gift Shop.

Wilbur A. Tyndall Tractor Museum


The Wilbur A. Tyndall Tractor Museum collects and exhibits John Deere, Massey, and other brand tractors dating to the early 1900's, other farm implements, advertisements, signs, agriculture and rural life memorabilia, and local history artifacts from the Pink Hill area. Also exhibited in conjunction with the tractor museum are the c.1840 Tyndall Farm House, the Stephen H. Davenport General Store, and a collection of 1930's and '40's bicycles.
